When you go to her Website, all that's left is the name of her company. Her portfolio, bio, contact form, and all other links are gone. There's just a name and logo on a white field. I guess when my credit-card company said they were going to make an example of her, they weren't kidding. They said it was a case of straight-up fraud, and since this kind of crime is costing everyone billions, someone has to make it stop.

Although I'm not a forgiving person, I'm also not vindictive. It's just that I've been assaulted my entire life, without letup. It continues right up to this very second. I warned my Web designer that if she fucked me, I'd make her wish she'd never met me. She didn't believe me. Now she does. All I did was spend a few hours online, taking screen shots, and then I sent them--along with the correspondence she and I shared--to the credit-card company. A very hard-bitten investigator named Maria did the rest.

(This was after PayPal refused to refund my money because building a Website isn't a service; it's the selling of a "virtual product," which their refund policy doesn't cover. Just so you know.)

A friend of mine sent me an e-mail yesterday, telling me about how his coworker was held up at gunpoint. He had the gun actually pressed to his skull. The victim said he was grateful he had a job, because it meant he wouldn't be "forced into crime." He wasn't even angry, and he said he was glad he didn't have his own gun, or else something really bad might've happened.

My question is, Why do law-abiding citizens with ethics and a strong sense of morality have to accept criminal behavior and make excuses for it? What societal good does it serve for those of us who follow the rules to lie down and play dead for those who think they have a right to take from us whatever they want, including our lives? I'm about as cut off from society as a person can be, but I still care about the rest of you. Is the new normal that not only are you going to be preyed upon, you also have to suppress any negative reaction you have to that? Why? How does that make the world a better place? It doesn't affect me, because I'm cloistered and defended in many different ways. Anyone who tries to hold me up at gunpoint is going to die on the spot. But the demand that you be supine affects those of you who go out of your houses and interact with strangers on a daily basis.

Not being angry when someone holds you up with a gun is abnormal. Anger in this case is healthy. It shows that you're not the bizarre product of completely demented, arbitrary social training. Some corrupt, safe, influential lunatic--in reality a whole passel of them--decreed that being held up at gunpoint is no reason to get angry, because the criminal who did it to you is the real victim. He was forced to do it. I reject that. Sorry. It's wrong, destructive, and a form of devolution. It's a sign of societal degradation.

So I'm glad that my second Web designer has been put out of business. She deserved it, because she's a predator. Everything that happened to her was her own fault. She was no more "forced" to rip me off than that gunman was "forced" to hold up my friend's coworker. And I warned her before we signed a contract and then four times along the way that if she ripped me off, she'd be very sorry. She took my money and fought to keep it because she's living beyond her means. That's not my problem. Again, she did it to herself.

Everyone who interacts with me for the rest of my life is on notice. If you assault me in any way, I'm going to demolish you. I oppose the ludicrous notion of a "proportional response." Instead, I've adopted Harry Truman's doctrine of massive retaliation.

Whatever you do to me, I'll respond with nuclear weapons.

Okay? You've been warned, so don't phone me from the rubble of your life, crying about how unfair it all is. I won't take any pleasure in beating you as small as the dust of the earth or stamping you as the mire of the street.

But I'll do it.
